Our team works with doctors trained in brain, spine and nervous system conditions (neurologists); ear, nose and throat conditions (otolaryngologists); laryngology and voice disorders; rehabilitation concerns (physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists); children's medical conditions (pediatricians, pediatric neurologists, craniofacial team experts).
Service Provided
It is recognized by ‘Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI)’ Government of India. The department offers an undergraduate professional course in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP). It is a 3 year term course with 1 year of internship. The department is certified under rPWD act 2016, 2020 by the District Disability Welfare Officer, Dakshin Kannada and Department of Disability affairs, Govt. of Karnataka.
With higher qualifications and getting trained from premier organizations, the faculty and staff serve in clinical, research and pedagogical teaching and learning activities. Department has the state of the art technology instrumentation and technology required for the screening, diagnostic procedures of hearing and balance disorders. Intelligent Hearing Systems (IHS), NeuroAud Soft, Balance & Eye from cyclops Medtech offers wide and deep analysis of hearing and vestibular health systems. Every newborn baby gets screened for hearing before getting discharged from hospital with the successful implementation of ‘Universal Newborn Hearing Screening’ at our Hospital.

Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology is recognized for carrying out clinical and academic research with infrastructure and facilities made available Speech Acoustic and Kinematics Lab has most advanced equipment for the clinical and research purpose. Acoustic Phonetics, Voice Sciences, Speech Recognition and Speaker Verification Systems using spectral analysis adds a unique facility in the coastal regions of Karnataka.
Only few institutes in India have the provision of Computerized Speech Lab (CSL Kay 4500b) from KAY PENTAX. With the modules of Motor Speech Profile (MSP), Multi-Dimensional Voice Profile (MDVP), Voice games, Analysis of Dysphonia in Speech and Voice (ADSV) in CSL, our clinical services are unique in the assessment and treatment of Voice and Speech Disorders in India.
Dysphagia Lab with the interdisciplinary team approach in rehabilitation of Head and Neck cancer and Stroke patients, has got an overwhelming number of patients utilizing the facilities from rural areas of Karnataka and Kerala.
Vestibular Lab & Integrated Virtual Technology Based Rehabilitation
The department provides evidence based practice in the rehabilitation of vestibular problems. Virtual technology based rehabilitation exercises are integrated in the routine clinical procedures.
Our department has successfully implemented the National Program for Prevention of Conductive Deafness (NPPCD) program of Govt. of India. Faculties are listed under the empaneled members of ADIP scheme of Govt. of India for Cochlear Implant Rehabilitation. With official Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs), the department carries out Outreach programs, Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR), school based screening programs and industrial screening camps for preventing occupational hazards of Noise on Hearing Health.
